Hi, I’m Andrea.  I was inducted into the Type 1 Parent club in March of 2008.  I am mom to Katy and Annelies, Navy mom to Jory, Army wife to Allen, also Army sister, Army (retired) daughter, Army & Air Force (Retired) granddaughter.  (Lots of military in my blood.)

You can read our diagnosis story here.

You can usually find me at Type1Parents, I am a huge believer in that no one ever should feel alone living with diabetes.  Everyone is entitled to a support network.  No matter if they live with a medical diagnosis or not.

Here I hope you will find that you are not alone as I share our adventures or my random thoughts.

Fair warning:

  • I am not a doctor or any other type of certified medical professional.  I only imitate a pancreas.  I do not dispense medical advice.  All posts should be taken as my opinions and/or what works for our family.  Please always consult your physician or diabetes care team to discover what works for you and before making any changes to your/your child’s medical regimen.
  • I will do my best to link all sources or articles I am using.  Sometimes the owner of the information will make changes or delete it.  If you notice a broken link, please let me know and I will attempt to fix it.
  • I tend to leave a typo here and there.  I do not claim to be perfect but I promise to do my best to proofread, but Grammar Police, you’ve been notified.
  • I will not always specify the “type” of diabetes.  My daughter is T1, so this is the type I am usually referring to when I write.  I will always clarify if I speak of another type.  I will do my best to share clarity.

Equipment that my daughter uses in the management of her diabetes:

I also hope to share information and our lessons learned to hopefully benefit other military families.  I’m pretty fluent in Tricare, so if you need help or have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I do plan to share more information specific to military in the future.

I won’t promise it all will be military or diabetes related, sometimes I just feel the need to say something.

Thanks for reading about me.  I look forward to getting to know you.
